September 24, 2007- When workers handle hazardous waste or ship hazardous materials, training is not just a good idea, it's the law. According to the Illinois EPA(1), workers who handle hazardous waste must be trained annually, and the federal DOT requires that workers involved in the shipment of hazardous materials be trained at least every three years.
Environmental Resource Center®, the leading provider of environmental and safety training, will present the mandatory training in Chicago on October 16 - 18 at the Four Points by Sheraton, O'Hare Airport.
Hazardous Waste Management: The Complete Course will be taught on October 16 and 17.
Hazardous Materials Certification Training for DOT 49 CFR Transportation Regulations will be taught on October 18 at the same location.
Untrained workers are frequently the cause of environmental accidents and penalties. Last year, more than 189 companies had been cited by the Illinois EPA for the mismanagement of hazardous waste, resulting in over $6.5 million in penalties.(2)
